CALENDAR is an application that allows the user to keep track of appoint-
ments and reminders for any day in the 20th century.
VERSION 2.1 CHANGES - June 25, 1988
This version of CALENDAR is even smaller than previous versions. Version
2.1 will now use only approximately 240KB of memory while executing. In
order to achieve this decrease in size, CALENDAR now uses only 4 colors and
some screen graphics have been removed.
Any day for which information has been entered will now appear on the
calendar screen in a different color - indicating that that day contains
a previously entered appointment or note.
Most of the major holidays are now included and will appear on the calendar
screen. NOTE: Easter and Ash Wednesday are only available for the 70's,
80's and 90's. If this is a problem, let me know.
The appointment window now includes a print function. Click on the "Print"
gadget and the information in that window will be sent to the printer.
Although not a new "feature" of CALENDAR, the calendar screen can be
reproduced on hard-copy by using "graphicsdump" or similar utility.
I am considering adding an "auto-schedule" feature which will allow the user
to set up appointments and notes for specific days of the week, days of the
month, or days of the year. Let me know if there is any interest in this
feature.
Version 2.1 should be totally compatible with previous releases. Let me
know if you encounter any problems.
VERSION 2.0 CHANGES - May 28, 1988
The main change for this release is that it now requires approximately 65K
fewer bytes of memory. It seems some 512K systems were having trouble
running the program. CALENDAR now uses approximately 320K.
Also fixed a couple of miscellaneous bugs.
INSTALLATION
CALENDAR uses Amiga system fonts and requires that the fonts "topaz" and
"diamond" be installed on the Workbench disk. These fonts should be there
unless you've intentionally deleted them. This archive should contain the
following files:
Calendar.v2.1 - the executable program
Calendar.v2.1.info - the icon for Calendar.v2.1
cf.files - a required file used by Calendar.v2.1
graphics.bmap - used to access Amiga OS's internal graphics routines
diskfont.bmap - used to access Amiga OS's internal font routines
Calendar.v2.1.doc - this .doc file
CALENDAR uses several files to save data: cfYY.dat and cfYY.ndx where YY is
the year for which the information was entered.
CALENDAR will default to the current directory when it is run.
This can be changed using the "Set Directory" option from CALENDAR's menu.
If you change the default directory, make sure that the file "cf.files" is
copied to the new directory.
USE
To start CALENDAR, simply double-click on its icon.
CALENDAR may also be invoked from CLI by typing, "Calendar.v2.1". If you run
it from the CLI, make sure that you have changed the current directory to the
directory that CALENDAR is on. The file "cf.files" must be on the same
directory as CALENDAR.
Once the program is running, you will see the title screen. To begin using
the program, click and hold the right mouse button and select "Start" from
the menu. If you have a system clock installed or have previously set the
system date and time, CALENDAR will bring up the calendar for the current
month. If no system date and time has been set, unpredictable results may
occur. In this case, problems can be avoided by choosing the "Change Month"
option instead of the "Start" option.
After the month's calendar is on the screen, position the mouse pointer over
any day and click the left button ONCE. A new window will appear with
several lines for "Appointments" and "Notes". The first time you run the
program, all of the lines will be empty. After you've entered and saved
some information on the lines, that information will re-appear when you
click on that day.
To the left of the each line is a box. After the "save" and "quit" gadgets
have appeared at the bottom of the window, position the mouse pointer over
one of the boxes to the left of the line and left-click once. The box will
turn orange and a cursor will appear on the line. Now begin keying whatever
you would like to keep track of for that day and press the RETURN key. You
can continue entering more information on different lines by selecting the
box to the left of the line, keying the information and then pressing
RETURN. NOTE: selecting a line which is already displaying information,
will erase all information on that line. When you are finished keying-in
the information for that day, select the "Save" gadget. Saving will take a
few seconds while the information is being written to disk. If you decide
that you do not want to save the information that you have keyed, select the
"Quit" gadget.
You may continue keying and/or viewing appointments and notes for any day in
the 20th century. You can change months by selecting "Change Month"
from the options menu and after the window appears, key in the new month
in MMYY format and press RETURN. NOTE: menu options are disabled while
the appointment window is open.
To exit CALENDAR, select "Quit" from the project menu. Do not click on the
window close gadget; this will not remove CALENDAR entirely from memory.
That's about all there is to it. I hope you find it useful.
NOTE:
If you encounter problems, either post a message to G.M.JACKSON on
GEnie or write a letter to the above address. When communicating by mail,
please indicate how you received the program. If you downloaded it from a
BBS, then let me know which BBS and its number. If I feel that a real
problem has been encountered, I will post a "fixed" version to the BBS. Any
potential enhancements will be considered. Let me know what your questions
or comments are.
